Shilpi Nanda

Shilpi is an MBA and a qualified actuary with more than 10 years’ experience in the insurance sector.

Over this period, she has worked in a wide range of functions including product development, pricing, financial reporting, risk management and economic capital. She has also had the unique opportunity to work across industry sectors viz. direct life insurance, insurance consulting, reinsurance and, recently, microinsurance. Currently, Shilpi is leading an ILO innovation project in partnership with Ghana’s National Health Insurance Authority. Her project explores the application of digital member renewal and identity authentication solutions in the field of social healthcare.


Doug Sumner

Doug is Principal of DCS Consulting Solution, Australia and Dean of Studies, Africa Bancassurance Academy based in Lagos Nigeria.

His organization provides consulting services to Boards and CEO’s in the areas of business and strategic planning, brand and organizational growth, distribution strategy and channel development, investment governance and management, risk management and policy development. Doug is Director of a number of organisations including:  Medisecure, a medical technology company, the Mercy Hospital Foundation and Simple Retail, which provides pharmacy management software for Pharmacists.He assists the Board’s of a number of Australia’s major charitable foundation’s in the investment and governance of their capital. Doug conducts a number of well respected ‘Masterclasses’ across the Asia-Pac region and Africa on subjects including:

  • Bancassurance
  • Product Development – Process and Strategy
  • An innovative approach to Strategy development for Banks, Insurance companies and the retail financial services industry.

Doug has also consults directly with Banks and Insurance companiess to assist them in the development of their Bancasssurance, Distribution and Product Development strategies. Doug is recognized as a leading strategist and thought leader in the global retail financial services industry. In his professional career spanning over 30 years, Doug has held senior positions with a number of companies across the Asia Pacific region, including AIA, AXA, AVIVA, CIGNA and National Australia Bank (NAB).

Bruce Sahd

Bruce Sahd is the Managing Director of CaseJohnson, a specialist marketing firm offering advisory, management and technology solutions that focus on alternative distribution strategies for insurance in African and Middle East markets.

Bruce has over 20 years of international experience in this specialised field having worked with clients in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and India. As a recognised authority in this field he is a frequent speaker at conferences in India, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Bahrain, Dubai, Kenya, Zambia and South Africa, with several articles published in leading South African and Kenyan Insurance Journals. Bruce has a background in management accounting, strategy and business development consulting, having also worked and lived in the UK and the Netherlands. He has a Philosophy degree from Leuven University in Belgium and an MBA from the University of Cape Town.


 Anthony Sarpong (CA, ACA, CIT)

Tony is  Partner and Head of Audit & Risk Management. He is also the lead partner for financial services industry in Ghana( banking and insurance, regulatory and capital markets).

He has worked in South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana.  Tony has  over 20 years of experience of audit of financial statements, project audit, accounting advisory, IFRS conversion and corporate recovery and insolvency services. The breadth of his experience covers the financial service, consumer markets and the telecom sector. His key clients in the financial service sector include Standard Chartered Bank (Ghana), CAL Bank (Ghana), UT Bank (Ghana), Bank of Ghana, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc, Citibank NA (Nigeria) and Standard Chartered Bank (Nigeria).

Russel Haresign

Russell is the Country Manager for BIMA in Ghana. BIMA has been in operation since 2010 and serves almost 2 million Ghanaians with micro-insurance and health services. It operates in partnership with Tigo and also with USAID/Vodafone Cash as well as under its own brand BIMA to offer life, accident and hospitalization insurance. Russell has overall strategic and operational responsibility for our Ghana business with over 650 employees.Russell has five years’ sales and operational management experience in South Africa with the security company ADT Security. Previously he held a strategy role with Tyco in London and was a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company. Russell holds an MA in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

Robert Dzato (MSc, MCIBS,CA, CIB, BMS)

Robert leads  Financial Services  Strategy and Operations in KPMG in Ghana and has worked on strategy engagements across West Africa including Nigeria.

He has been involved in articulating strategy  for insurance, banking and asset management clients. He has helped to formulate strategic plans for tier 1 insurers and banks across in Ghana and Nigeria,  and has facilitated board, stakeholder and management  retreat sessions as well. Robert has conducted market insights on banking industry customer satisfaction and insurance sector reviews. Robert has worked extensively in multi-cultural environments in England, Scotland, Nigeria and Ghana. He has worked with Lloyds Banking Group, Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Standard Chartered. Robert is graduate from Reading University, UK and Cape Coast University , Ghana. He is professional banker and accountant

James Norman

Head of Insurance, KPMG East Africa

James is an industry expert with over 17 years of successful experience in the insurance sector.In his current role as the Head of Insurance for KPMG East Africa, James is responsible for strategy, research, innovation, quality assurance, market and brand position, business development, capacity building and engagement delivery. James works with close to 80 clients across the region in all areas of consultancy at all levels of the value chain and he is also a member of the KPMG global insurance team, KPMG global insure-tech team, KPMG global IFRS17 team. Locally he is part of the FS and Financial inclusion strategy teams.Prior to joining KPMG, he has worked for 4 leading UK insurers, a global brokerage and a leading insurance law firm in senior operational roles; and a consultant.James has acquired vast knowledge and expertise in UK/Europe, East Africa, West Africa, UAE and emerging/ high growth markets in the sector.He is also 3-time winner of the UK insurance sector awards, has sat on 2 UK industry steering groups and has made multiple key note presentations in many countries.James holds a distinction in risk management (ICRM/IRM-UK), and a BA (Honours) in sociology from Coventry University. Nii Ashirifi Gogo

Head of Product and New Business Development, E.Services Africa Ltd

Nii is the Head of Product and New Business Development at e.Services Africa Ltd., leading the roll out and management of new products and strategic partnerships at the company. He has ten years of experience in corporate finance and new business launch across Africa, Asia and North America.He started his career as analyst in the Global Corporate Bank at Citigroup, New York, with responsibility for ongoing credit portfolio management and evaluation of new commitments. He has also worked as a Business Division Manager with the Ghanaian subsidiary of Milvik AB taking to market a range of BIMA branded life, hospital and personal accident insurance products and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the division. Prior to joining Milvik, he was the Director of Global Business Services at Sproxil Inc. responsible for finance and administration for the company’s early stage subsidiaries in Ghana, Kenya and India.Nii holds a BSc in Operations Research from Columbia University, New York and a BA in Economics from Grinnell College, Iowa.




Fred Dennis

He is currently an Audit Partner who oversees a number of audit engagements in the financial services sector. He has over 15 years experience with KPMG where he has led various audit engagements across different sectors in Ghana ranging from multinational quoted companies to small owner managed businesses. His expertise is in auditing, review of financial systems and controls, providing technical accounting advise, due diligence and organisational restructuring. His clients include participants in the financial services sector including banks, insurance companies , pension funds and capital market firms. Frederick Dennis is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a member of the institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana. He is also a graduate of the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon with a BA. Administration degree.


Mr. Justice Yaw Ofori

Commissioner of Insurance

Mr. Ofori, until his appointment was the Director of the Ghana Insurance College.He holds an International Executive MBA and a B.A. Honours from the University of Ghana (Political Science Major). Mr. Ofori is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Ghana and the Chartered Insurance Professional Insurance Institute of Canada.
He assumes duty with a wide range of experience in both teaching and practicing since qualifying as a chartered insurer.
